Luna y Cielo is a welcoming space where Latine families and allies can play, learn, and connect with others raising bilingual children.

Our Spanish Immersion Camp is an incredible opportunity for children to strengthen their Spanish journey while sharing space with other Latine kids and bilingual learners.

At Luna y Cielo, we follow a 100% Spanish immersion model. This means our teachers speak only in Spanish, allowing children to be fully surrounded by the Spanish language. With consistent exposure, children naturally begin to understand and speak Spanish faster. For students who may need extra support, we provide context clues, visuals, routines, and hands-on activities to make Spanish learning accessible and fun.

Day Off Camp Curriculum

Our Day Off Camps are designed to be high-energy, engaging, and fully immersive in Spanish. Because we only have a short time together, these camps are tailored for children who are:

  • Dominant in Spanish,

  • Currently enrolled in a dual-language program, or

  • Actively attending a Luna y Cielo Spanish class.

This focus ensures we maximize Spanish use and provide the richest language experience possible—while keeping the day filled with creativity, culture, and joy.

Maestra Edna

Maestra Edna has been running our summer camps for two seasons and we are excited to finally have her year round. Edna is pursuing her early childhood degree and is wrapping up her Associates at Malcolm X and then will transfer to a local university to obtain her bachelors degree. She previously was a nanny with another LyC family and has been working with children for a number of years.

Maestra is very patient with children and has creative ways to capture their attention and manage her classroom.

What to Bring

Food: Please make sure you bring lunch and a morning time snack for your child. No peanuts. If you are using a peanut alternative, please mark your child’s food as such. Our afternoon snack will be made during cooking class.

Due to capacity we are unable to accommodate napping children.

Why 100% Immersion Works Best

Research consistently shows that children learn languages most effectively through full immersion—being surrounded by the target language all day. Here’s what studies say:

  • 📚 Stronger Academics: Immersion students outperform peers in reading and math, both in their home language and in English, once they’ve had a few years in the program.

  • 🧠 Brain Benefits: Bilingual children show better attention, problem-solving, and memory skills compared to monolinguals.

  • 💬 Faster Fluency: Children in early immersion programs often reach near-native fluency by middle school.

  • ⏱️ Early Advantage: The younger children are exposed to a second language, the easier it is for them to pick it up naturally.
